AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and challenges students to think critically and advance through perseverance to succeed. At McCombs Middle School, AVID is a school-wide approach to teaching and learning and also an elective class for students. School-wide, our teachers use collaborative strategies, organization tools, writing and reading skills and inquiry-based techniques to enhance a student’s learning.

The AVID elective class is for students who are interested and determined to succeed in college. In addition to the school-wide strategies, AVID elective students attend college field trips, participate in weekly tutorials, meet guest speakers and learn more skills to succeed in college.
